Kent Evans Runkle passed away August 15, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 22, 1946, in Oklahoma City, the second and last child of Lowe Winfield Runkle and Alice Escoe Runkle.
Kent grew up in the Crown Heights area of Oklahoma City and graduated from Harding High School. He attended Oklahoma Christian University. Kent spent some of his early years working at the family business, the Lowe Runkle Company, at that time the largest advertising agency in the state.
Kent and his mother Alice moved to Norman in 1992 after the death of his father. He was a devout member of the South Canadian Valley Church of Christ and much of his later life centered around church activities.
Kent had artistic talent and directed it to drawing cartoons. He also tried his hand at writing children's literature. He had an extraordinary, almost photographic memory, and a highly developed sense of humor. Kent was always walking around Norman, often distances of 5-6 miles; he loved to pass his days this way.
He is survived by his brother, Layton Runkle, sister-in-law, Charla Runkle, both of Norman; nephew, Craig Runkle of Norman, niece, Gretchen Runkle Nicholson of Norman; and nephews, Lowe Runkle II and Matthew Runkle both of Oklahoma City.
Memorial contributions should be made to South Canadian Valley Church of Christ.
