Kieran Dennis Maye, "Kerry", was born November 21, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY. He died April 22, 2011, in OKC. Kerry was a devoted Catholic, husband, father, grandpa, great-papa and friend. He loved to spend time with his family and travel, especially with his wife, Patty. Kerry was very proud of his Irish heritage, quick with the brogue and a story. He had a beaming smile that would warm a room and loved surprising his grandchildren, great grandchildren and unsuspecting adults by wiggling his ears. Kerry loved word games and would fill in the crossword puzzle each day in ink. He loved to watch sports and play golf with his sons and supported all his children in their many activities and endeavors.
Kerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Maye, four of his children Maryanne (Marlon) Johnston, Kieran (Leslie) Maye, Jr, Joseph (Anne Marie) Maye, and Deirdre (fiancé Richard Newcomb) Hite, 17 grandchildren ranging in age from 30 years to 8 months and 5 (soon to be 6) great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Maye, his parents James Joseph and Margaret Ellen Maye and his brothers James and David.
Kerry was the youngest of 3 boys. He attended Catholic grammar school and St. Augustine's High School. After graduation Kerry began working and attending City College of New York at night. In 1954 he met Patty Cahill at a dude ranch in upstate NY. Kerry and Patty were engaged on December 8, 1955, in St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. They were married September 29, 1956. In 1963 Kerry completed his BAA. He worked in marketing for American Potash and Chemical Co. in NYC. In 1970 the family made the transition from NY to Oklahoma City where he began working for Kerr-McGee Chemical. His work involved travel to Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other places in Asia and Europe. Kerry has been a member of St. Eugene's parish for the last 41 years serving in many different roles including the Knights of Columbus.
Our lives are richer and fuller because of him. How thankful we are for him and how deeply we miss him.
