He started college at John Brown University and finished his degree at Oklahoma State University in 1997. As a youth, Kyle traveled across the United States in an Airstream motorcoach with his grandparents, James and Ellen Battle. He saw most of the country early in his life, which profoundly impacted his childhood. He loved fishing with his grandparents, Gene and Louise Keeton, at Lake Eufaula.
