Lana K. Cohlmia

Lana K. Cohlmia went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 11, 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Dallas, TX on January 5, 1959 to Dr. Ray and Sameera Cohlmia, while her father was attending Baylor Dental School. The family moved to Oklahoma City, OK when Lana was six months old. She jokes and says that she remembers those six months in Dallas as some of the best. One of her last wishes was that those reading this obituary would enjoy learning about her and have fun while reading. So in her honor, enjoy learning about Lana. She graduated from the one and only "original" Putnam City High School in 1977, from a small class of 850+. She received her BS degree from Oklahoma State University in 1981, though she cheered for both state teams regularly. She had a short stint working for KOMA Radio Station, and then followed her dream. As "professional arguer" from birth, she realized at a young age she could be paid for arguing, thus she attended and graduated from OCU School of Law. She relished her years in law school saying it was the time of her life. She was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1985, and had a wonderful and flourishing practice in Oklahoma City for over 30 years. Through her civil and family law practice, Lana was proud of her reputation of providing her clients with the kind of sensitivity, understanding, and expertise that family law cases demand. As an experienced litigator, Lana handled divorce and child custody cases, and had an extensive background in personal injury, insurance disputes, insurance defense, business litigation, litigated estates, and all family legal matters. She was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the United States Supreme Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the United States District Courts for Western, Eastern, and Northern Oklahoma. She co-hosted the Radio Show, Saturday Night Law, with Doug Friesen from 1998 to 2005 on Oklahoma KTOK. They took calls and discussed any and ALL issues. The show always received rave reviews. She was a lifelong member of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church, where as a young teenager she wrote, directed, and starred in the Sunday School Christmas plays, "As the Stomach Turns." She was a member of the All Girls Choir and served on the Bake Sale and Advertising Committees. The heartbeat of her life and the reason she continued to argue was her daughter Aubrey, whom she raised as a single mother into a beautiful young lady. Together they enjoyed numerous wonderful times and travels. Recently they celebrated together as Aubrey and her high school team of Mt. Saint Mary took 5A State Championship for Volleyball. Lana posted: "#7 on the court...#1 in my heart!! Aubrey became a State Champ last night!! I am extremely proud of this girl! What a perfect way to end your senior season! I love you so much!!" During Lana's illness, Aubrey wrote her mom a letter telling her how much she meant to her and thanking her for giving her life. Lana wants Aubrey to know how proud of her she is, how much she dearly loves her, and how much that letter meant to her. Lana wants to thank the host of doctors and caregivers who by the grace of God kept her alive. She also wants to especially thank the many teachers at Mt. St. Mary High School for all they did for her and Aubrey during her illness, especially, Principal Talita DeNegri, Coach Keilty, Coach Mary Jekel, and Mrs. Mallory Tecmire. She especially thanks you all for moving Mother Daughter Banquet up six months so that she could attend with Aubrey. Finally but most importantly Lana thanks her Dad, Mom, Dana, Raymond, and Matt for all they have done for her and especially for being her stand in parents for Aubrey. She is survived by her daughter Aubrey Sameera Haddon Cohlmia, her parents Dr. Ray and Sameera Cohlmia, and her siblings Dana and husband Daniel Karim; Dr. Raymond and wife Sherry Cohlmia; and Dr. Matt and wife Susan Cohlmia; the prizes of her life her nieces and nephews: Nicole and husband Matt Matlock, Danielle and husband Jonathon Cox, Jacob and Olivia Karim, Derek, Brandon, Joshua, Matthew II, and Blake Cohlmia; her step son Creighton Allen Haddon and wife Kayla; Doug Friesen, her love, friend, and confidant; a host of loving aunts and uncles; and 36 first cousins. Trisagion and Closing of the Casket Service will be Feb. 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elijah; and Funeral Services will be Feb. 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elijah. Final internment will be at Rose Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church, Mt. St. Mary High School, or a charity of your choice.
