Lana Ranette Dickerson
daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend
Ranette was born on May 1, 1967 in Pittsburgh, PA to Kenneth and Jorena Rachels. She graduated from Plano East High School and attended Brigham Young University for one year before enlisting in the United States Naval Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman. At the end of Navy basic training she met David Dickerson who was also in the military. They had a short time together in Orlando, FL before she returned to Plano, TX to begin college again. She and David had a long-distance relationship that culminated with their marriage in Edinburg, NY in 1989.
She relocated as David's military assignments changed while continuing to work toward earning her AAS in Medical Laboratory Technician; finally achieving that goal at Thomas Nelson Community College, VA in 1992.
The first of their three children Zachary, was born in 1992, followed by Ryan in 1995, and Shelby in 1999. Ranette continued to serve in the US Navy Reserve until 1996. She was the perfect military wife through numerous deployments during David's Navy and Army career, a caring mother and often stand-in father. Ranette was the glue that held the family together through good times and difficult ones, even willing to offer a second chance when it wasn't deserved.
Ranette will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her quick smile, kindness, selflessness, and supportive nature will never be replaced by those who depended on her but the memories of all she did will live forever.
A Celebration of Lana's life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel with a reception following. Those wishing to honor Lana, may do so by contributing to the Tenaciously Teal non-profit organization, providing love, community and empowerment to cancer fighters or to the Stephenson Cancer Center.
