Larry Thompson, loving husband, devoted father, dedicated grandfather, great-grandfather and caring brother, peacefully went to be with the Lord after a long illness.
Larry was born in Vernon, Texas to Elva O. and Frank D. Thompson but lived most of his life in Oklahoma City.
In 1954 Larry graduated from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Tau Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Later that year he joined the U.S. Army and was on active duty for 2 years, including an assignment in Germany. After his military service, Larry joined his father in the family business,
Capitol Stage Equipment Company, where he was owner and president until his retirement in 2006.
Larry loved life and had many interests including Boy Scouts, camping, painting, snow & water skiing, watching OSU football, their cabin at Lake Eufaula, traveling and spending time with family.
For over 50 years Larry was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley, son Bob Thompson, daughters Sharon Myers (Dan) and Susan Rupe (Kevin), granddaughters Kerri Beasley (Justin), Amy Donnell (Derek), Jennifer Thompson, grandson Chris Rupe and three great-granddaughters Ashlyn, Eva and Vivian. Also, sister Dixie Galloway (Tom), brother Don Thompson (Hilda), brother-in-law Jerry Haddock (Nancy) and sister-in-law Beverly Haddock along with many nieces and nephews.
A prayer service will be held at Smith and Kernke Chapel on Wednesday, August 27th at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28th at Christ the King Catholic Church and graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donations in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice. The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support throughout the last few years.
