Layton Perry

Layton Morgan Perry Jr. passed away May 4th 2016 at the age of 71. He suffered a yearlong battle with brain cancer. Layton was born to Layton Morgan Sr. and Bette (Adolph) Perry on July 2nd 1944 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. Layton attended El Reno High school until his senior year when his family moved to Palo Alto, California. After graduating from Palo Alto High School, his family moved to Kansas City where Layton attended Kansas State University. He played quarterback for the freshmen football team at Kansas State. There, he pledged Beta Theta Pi and won many intermural trophies for his fraternity. In his senior year at Kansas State, he met Barbara Anne Tussey and their life together began. After graduating from Kansas State with an accounting degree, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Layton attended Officer Training School in Fort Sill, OK. Barbara and Layton were married after OCS on November 23, 1968. They were married for 47 years. Layton served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and earned two bronze stars for his military service. After returning from Vietnam, Barbara and Layton moved to Oklahoma City where Layton attended Law School at Oklahoma City University. Layton was active in the Oklahoma City community by serving on the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and as Board member of Aerospace America. Layton had many hobbies including collecting model trains, photography, playing tennis, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his father, Layton Morgan Perry Sr. and his mother, Bette Adolf Perry. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Anne Perry, daughter, Meredith Jacob and son-in-law, David Jacob, of Castle Rock, Colorado; Daughter Marci Peters and son-in-law Chad Peters of Southlake, Texas; his five grandchildren Payton, Braydon, and Bryce Jacob and Morgan and Hattie Peters; siblings and their spouses, Henry and Jane Perry; Philip and Sandy Perry, and Betsey and Scott VanWhye, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel.
