Lee Marks Holmes of Oklahoma City was born March 28, 1939 to Howard Cecil and Wynona Marks Holmes. He went home to be with the Lord May 21, 2024. Lee was married to his lifelong love, Claire Lyn Holmes. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Law and practiced law in Oklahoma City from 1963 until this year. He was a loving, fun, adventurous, kind-hearted and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Lee is survived by his wife Claire Lyn Holmes, children: Brenda (Dave) Armstrong, Mark (Suzanne) Holmes, Stacey (Eric) Wyatt; grandchildren, William (Lauren) Price, Corbin (Kristen) Wyatt, Emily (Patrick) McDonald, Pierce Wyatt, Elise Wyatt, Benjamin Armstrong, Elisabeth Armstrong, Chloe Wyatt, Zoe Holmes, Gabriel Holmes and great grandchild, Sophie Price; brother, Philip Holmes, sister, Virginia O’Leary, in-laws, Tom and Pauli Dykstra and Lee Hopson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his longtime law partner, Tracy Neisent. Lee is predeceased by his brothers, Howard Wynn Holmes, Timothy Holmes, sister Cecilia Cole and his parents.
Lee was a founder of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), served on the Board of Directors and was elected as Fellow of NAELA. Lee was one of the first attorneys in the United States to be Certified as an Elder Law Attorney. Lee also served as Oklahoma District Club President of the Exchange Club and as President of the Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center of Oklahoma, Inc. (now known as Parent Promise). Lee also served as President of the Oklahoma Pilots Association. He was an avid pilot and could often be found with his buddies at C.E. Page Airport, Sundance Airport, and other fly-in destinations.
Lee’s life was characterized by unwavering kindness, love, compassion and respect for every person he knew and met. He loved the Lord, his family, friends, airplanes, traveling and serving others. He demonstrated the fruits of the Spirit to all, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22.
A memorial service for Lee will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. CST at Faith Bible Church, 600 North Coltrane Road, Edmond, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the following were among the many charitable organizations important to Lee:
