Linda Dowling

Linda Brown Dowling died peacefully on Saturday, January 6 at her home in Oklahoma City. Linda Susan Brown was born on January 20, 1949, in Helena, Arkansas and moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 15. She was an accomplished dancer by the age of ten, became a skilled ballerina and taught ballet while attending St. Gregory’s College and the University of Oklahoma. Linda married Matt Dowling on January 20, 1978. They lived happily together in Oklahoma City for 42 years where he practiced law.

Linda worked for the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club for the past 42 years. She was originally hired as a temporary employee and stayed on in a variety of positions. She learned the essential practices of the numerous functions and operations of the Club and over time, became its “institutional memory” and an indispensable administrator as Executive Assistant/Membership Director. Linda loved her job at the club and enjoyed all of the members and staff with whom she had the great pleasure to work.

Linda worked part time for Harris Realty as a Realtor for many years and enjoyed serving her clients as they bought and sold their homes. She was actively involved in her neighborhood, serving for years on the board and most recently as President of the HOA. She made many good friends in the neighborhood and looked forward to all of their dinners and activities.

Like so many other women in our times, Linda flourished in her professional and private lives. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends on holidays and special occasions. Her graciousness and welcoming embrace of all will be warmly remembered by those of us lucky enough to enjoy her Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties, or Oklahoma football watch gatherings.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew M. Dowling. She is survived by her daughters Laura Dowling Feix (Terry) and Elaine Dowling (Monty Walls); her grandsons, Mathew Cole Feix (Laura), Carson Feix (Rachel), Tucker Feix (Holly); five great-grandchildren; her sister & brother, Dorothy Dean Sullivan and Charles Steven Brown (Diane); her nieces and nephews: Cynthia Sullivan Powers, Lisa Sullivan Vierling, Brad Sullivan, Craig Sullivan and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Crossings Community Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bethany Children’s Health Center - Outpatient Tower Project, in Linda’s name.
