Linda Powell Skinner age 76 passed away in Oklahoma City on August 26, 2018. She was born in Houston, Texas on September 21, 1941. Linda was a very independent and strong willed woman who was also kind and compassionate to those who needed her help and love. Linda's compassion was not only felt by her family and friends, but also felt by any stray cats or dogs that crossed her path. Our family lost count long ago of the number of stray animals she would bring home to love and nurture. Linda lived in OKC for 37 years. Although she was born and raised in Texas and California, she loved Oklahoma and its people best. Oklahoma was truly her home. Linda loved working and had many different jobs but she truly loved helping the elderly and less fortunate in the mental health field. She graduated from Oklahoma City Community College with an Associate's Degree in Gerontology and worked for many years at Community Counseling in OKC where she made many lifelong friends. Linda loved to travel which included road trips with Charley, a honeymoon trip to Chicago with Larry, a Santa Fe trip with Brent, and many trips to Texas, California and New Orleans to visit and celebrate with family. Linda loved music especially jazz and the blues. Linda was widowed twice, both husbands were Oklahoma born and bred. She was a bright and loving person who was loved dearly and will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Helen Powell; her husband Charles Hackbarth; her husband Larry Lee Skinner and her nephew Michael S. Wenger. Linda is survived by her daughter Shawn Barrett (Allen); granddaughters Kate and Becca; sister Kathleen Shock; brother Michael Powell (Sharon); nephew Robert Wenger (Kathleen); nieces Carrie (Peter), Tori, Tricia; grandniece Sophie and so many dearly loved friends including the Royal Family (Long Live the Queen), and her devoted dog Manly Stanley. Memorial Contributions can be sent to Free to Live, P.O. Box 5884, Edmond, OK 73083. A Celebration of Life Service for Linda will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, September 21st at First Unitarian Church, 600 NW 13th St., OKC, OK 73103.
