In the company of loved ones, Lynna Kaye Geis passed away on January 16, 2015. Lynna was born in Enid, Oklahoma on November 23, 1937. Her parents were Lynn A. Phares, and Ruth Evelyn Phares. Ruth Evelyn later married Clarence B. Hill who became Lynna's adoptive father. Lynna graduated from Cherokee High School in 1955. She married Alvin Charles Geis of Alva, Oklahoma. She devoted the next years of her life to her two children, Heather Kaye Geis, and Jay Charles Geis. She resumed her education, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Elementary Education from Phillips University in 1968 and 1970. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Reading Education and Educational Psychology from the University of Oklahoma in 1975. For five years, she taught in public schools in Oklahoma and Kansas. She was Reading Coordinator and Professor at Rose State College from 1977 until she retired in 2002. Lynna served as President of the Oklahoma Higher Education Reading Council. She was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Honor Society, and the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Lynna served as deacon and elder of the First Christian Church of Norman, Oklahoma where she lived for many years. After moving to Oklahoma City, she became a member of Mayflower Congregational Church where she was active in bible study. Lynna was a longtime member of PEO, holding various offices over time. Lynna balanced her life of teaching and service with a life rich in the enjoyment of her family and friends. She modeled a life of devotion to community, family, and friends. She adored her grandson and supported his higher education. She enjoyed the arts, yoga, walking, dining out, and even an occasional bottle of Newcastle ale with her son in law. After a devastating injury in September 2013, she continued to participate in life as best she could. Lynna is survived by her daughter Heather Kaye Geis Lensgraf, her son in law Samuel Jay Lensgraf, and her grandson Samuel Eric Lensgraf all of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her son Jay Charles Geis. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23rd from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at Smith & Kernke 23rd Street Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 10:00am at Kingfisher Cemetery with a Memorial Service at 4:00pm at Mayflower Congregational Church.
