Mackenzie (Mac) Cummings Thompson was born to Mackenzie Cummings Thompson Sr. and Thelma Hulick Thompson in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14th, 1928 as the second of four children. He died June 11, 2014 in Oklahoma City after a long battle with Alzheimer's/dementia. His father worked for American Airlines and so he moved several times in growing up including Berea, Ohio, New York City, New York and Ardmore, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school. In 1950 while attending church he met and then married Edith Francis Mahaffey who was to be his lifelong companion and spouse. He attended several colleges, graduating from Oklahoma City University. He chose to be a minister in the then Methodist Church and started seminary at SMU while serving several churches and finally getting his degree from Phillips University. He was a member of the Oklahoma conference and served a number of churches including St. Matthews in Midwest City, Jenks, Blanchard, Enid, Harrison Memorial in Sand Springs and Village UMC in Oklahoma City. He was Dean of the Chapel at OCU and served as head of the substance abuse counseling center. He was continually trying to find ways to call the church to serve those less fortunate and marginalized and in 1969 acting on those principles he was appointed by the conference, at his insistence, to start a ministry to the poor and outcast in downtown Oklahoma City which became Skyline Urban Ministry. He labored for many years to bring it to not only the consciousness of the church but to everyone the plight of the disadvantaged and poor of Oklahoma City. The ministry continues today still serving and functioning as a testament of both his work and vision, but also as a vital arm of the church in answering the call of the gospel to serve those less fortunate. He was involved in starting several agencies as well as a school for counselors for substance abuse and a seminar series to help people adjusting to divorce and loss. He had three children Gerald (Jerry) Mackenzie Thompson, Jack Robert Thompson married to Ann N., Cinda (Cindy) Sue Krone married to Tom. He had 6 grandchildren Edie Michelle Krone, Thomas Mackenzie Krone married to Sabrina, Andrew Bradley Thompson married to Amy, Alan Cummings Krone married to Dannah, Mackenzie Blake Thompson married to Lauren, and David Robert Krone married to Lawren. He was a good father, good husband and even more an outstanding human being.
