Marie Terbush Corbyn

Marie Terbush Corbyn died peacefully on June 5, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer she fought while she was in Hospice care in her home for the last 9 months. Marie was born in Alva, Oklahoma on December 25, 1937. She remained faithful to her Alva roots her entire life. Her father was Tom Terbush, the Chief of Alva Fire Department. Marie's mother, Dena, was the head Administrative Assistant at the Central National Bank of Alva for over 40 years. Marie worshiped her father, and he felt the same way towards her. Dena and Marie were as close as a mother and daughter could possibly be, and Dena instilled in Marie her independence and resilient spirit. Marie stayed especially close all these years to her cousin Annie Kline and her husband Darryl from Alva. Marie left Alva in 1954 when she was 17 years old to attend nursing school at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. She became a degreed and well-respected surgical nurse which was her true professional calling. She maintained a close connection with her nursing colleagues over the years, including hosting them in one of their most recent reunion lunches in Oklahoma City.Marie met Buddy Corbyn, and the two fell deeply in love and married in 1968. Their life was filled with joy and one adventure after another. They loved dancing at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club and never missed an OU home football game, traveling to and from the games with their friends on the "Blunder Bus." They were faithful attendees at all of their children's sporting events – football, basketball, and field hockey.Marie and Buddy traveled everywhere overseas and at home and loved every second of it. At home their trips involved Buddy behind the wheel and Marie as the navigator. Some were: Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho, Gull Lake in Minnesota, Gulfport Mississippi and often to Zihuatanejo Mexico where they would spend the winter at the beach after their 1,000 mile road trip from Oklahoma City. Overseas included Marbella Spain, Estoril Portugal, Australia and New Zealand, where they made long lasting friends. After Buddy died in 2001, Marie bought a house on Lake Taupo and spent each winter in her beloved New Zealand, catching up with Lisa and David and her special friends Alex, Ann and Gail. Marie was always keeping in touch with her wide circle of relatives and friends, never missing a special occasion. Marie is survived by her son George Corbyn and his wife Laura McConnell-Corbyn and Marie's daughter Lisa Corbyn and her husband David McCarthy who live in Sydney, Australia. Marie is also survived by her grandchildren Michelle, J., Will, Kevin and Janie and Laura's children Ryleigh and Danielle. Marie is also survived by her eleven great-grandchildren in her extended family: Corbyn, Ila, Maddie, Sloane, Keller, Evelyn, George, Henry, Shaffer, Hunter and Sutton. They all loved Marie, and she loved them. And special thanks to Mike and Paula McGraw who were Buddy and Marie's best friends and close neighbors in the Greens; and Mike was such a big help and friend to Marie after Buddy died. Also special thanks to Mercy Hospital Hospice Care and all of Marie's wonderful nurses who gave Marie so much comfort and loving care: Susan, Jerdella, Winifred, Rose, Rachel, Vinita and Catherine. Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of The Resurrection, 13112 N. Rockwell Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73142. Private Services will be held and Marie will be buried next to her husband Buddy at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
