Marilyn truly spent her time on earth helping others and left it surrounded by family who loved her all the more for it. Her 47-year nursing career began after earning a Masters degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma. From the time she spent on the floor to her position as Director of Nursing, Marilyn always focused on caring for others. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her personal life, too. In 1978, she became the first single woman in the state of Oklahoma to adopt a child.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she gave everyone her best. Marilyn was an avid OU football and basketball fan and she loved her Oklahoma City Thunder. She enjoyed reading books, playing games, spending time with her grandsons, and going to casinos with her siblings.
Marilyn left a large circle of family and friends to love her and remember her legacy. She is survived by her daughter, Reneé Hays; son-in-law, Robert Hays; and their children Austin and Cooper. Her sisters Frances Swartz and Pat Metoyer, brother Charles Thompson and wife Margaret, brother-in-law Jim Swartz, sister-in-law Jo Thompson, her numerous nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews and her cat Jinx. Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Thompson; father, William H. Thompson; brother, Bob Thompson; brother-in-law, Adolph Metoyer; and nephew, David Swartz.
