MariLynn Shadid, beloved wife, mother, Sittie, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family and her God. MariLynn was born in Wichita, KS, on February 20, 1933 to James and Hilwa Wehba. The family moved to Elk City, OK where MariLynn excelled in school and activities including cheerleading and acting.
After graduating from Elk City High School in 1950, MariLynn attended Stephens College for Women in Columbia, MO, where she became President of her house. In 1953, she moved to Oklahoma City where she met and fell in love with George Shadid after he returned from serving in the Korean War. Married on May 2, 1954, their union produced three children, Shawn, Tim and Lori.
MariLynn loved her church and spent many dedicated hours educating the young women of St. Elijah Christian Orthodox Church. MariLynn was involved with Bible Study Fellowship and was a leader for many years; developing many lasting Christian relationships.
Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her husband of 63 years, is her children Shawn (Ken) Grantham, Tim (Debra) Shadid, and Lori Baptist. Sittie is also survived by grandchildren, Mallory Grantham (Michael) Holder, Jeb Shadid, Sam Shadid, Daisha and Madison, Brett (and his wife Cassandra) Baptist and Blake Baptist. Her two sisters, Shirlie Daniel and Jimmie Lou (Charles) Shadid will miss her more than can be expressed. She had 9 nieces who held their Aunt MariLynn in the highest esteem.
A true child of the King, she is at home with her parents, George's parents, and brother-in-law William Shadid and numerous other family members, and most importantly, her true and loving Savior Jesus Christ. We praise Him for allowing us all to have her for 84 years wonderfully spent on Earth.
Visitation at the family home will be Monday, September 11, 3-6 pm. Services/Celebration of Life for MariLynn will be Tuesday, September 12 at 10:30am at St. Elijah, 15000 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Elijah Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund.
