Mark Harvey Lindsey, devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, passed away all too soon and very suddenly on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the age of 53 years. Mark loved his family more than his own life, and if there was even a moment which occurred before he met his Savior, his thoughts and concern would have been for his wife, Tamra, his son, John, his daughter, Abigail, his granddaughter, Ellie, and his stepchildren Laurel Cunningham and Forrest Thomas. As excited as he most assuredly was to see the face of Jesus and meet his Heavenly Father in person, his concern for leaving his family behind would have caused him hesitation. His family takes great comfort in knowing that Mark is resting now in the arms of Jesus!
Mark was born on September 21, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. James Harvey and Judith Koerner Lindsey. Mark was the eldest of three children, including a brother Greg Lindsey (wife Diana) and a sister Ellen Dougherty (husband Tom). The family returned to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma when Mark was a small child and that is where he lived during his formative years. Mark was an Eagle Scout and also a member of the football team and wrestling team for Pauls Valley High School. Even as a teenager, Mark's magnanimous personality drew all around him and everyone wanted to be his friend.
Mark attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in marketing. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. (Harv!) He maintained many of those friendships throughout his life. He rarely missed an OU football game and was known to support the Sooners as a dedicated fan.
Mark enjoyed much success as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch. He also loved working in the oil field and in medical device sales. Not only will he be missed by his many clients who depended on his expert financial advice, but also by his host of friends who often ran to him with a financial questions or for personal advice.
As a devoted member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mark served his parish with Perpetual Adoration. A lifelong dream was fulfilled this past summer when he visited the Vatican with his wife's family in Rome. Mark was a man of faith who not just talked the talk, but who also walked the walk. His personal relationship with God was the most important thing in his life and was the driving force behind everything that he did! He was a prayer warrior who was often known to spend a day fasting and praying over the needs of his friends. And now, he is reaping the rewards of his faith as he is experiencing the glory of heaven and basking in the wondrous light of his Savior and Lord.
Mark considered his two "angels", John and Abi, to be his greatest accomplishments! Seeing them grow and mature into loving and healthy adults was his greatest joy! Celebrating the birth of his granddaughter, Ellison ("Elli"), last year put a sparkle in Mark's eyes that never left. Mark's circle was complete when we met and married, Tamra, his soul mate and the love of his life. From the day he met her, he said, "I'm going to marry that girl!" and he did! Mark adored Tamra and thought himself to be the luckiest man in the world that she loved him, too! They enjoyed five wonderful years together that were the happiest years of his life. They enjoyed travelling, which included trips to Italy, Puerto Penasco Mexico, a Caribbean cruise, as well as weekend trips to Lake Tenkiller with special friends.
Through the years, Mark donated his time to many civic organizations and non-profits, including Habitat for Humanity, the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, Merrillac Center for the Homeless, The Arts Council as a chairman for the Festival of the Arts, The Arthritis Foundation, Religious Education for grades 1, 3 and 5, Rosary Instruction classes.
Mark was a man of immense integrity, honesty, patience, generosity and compassion who was an inspiration to all. He was a man of his word who kept his commitments. A true gentleman, he never met a stranger, was kind to everyone he met, made everyone feel special, and was always available with an encouraging word and to help anyone in need. Mark had a wonderful sense of humor with a smile and laugh that lit up every room he entered! He was extremely intelligent and especially enjoyed studying church history and sharing his vast knowledge with anyone who would listen. He was loved and adored by everyone who knew him.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents Dr. ay Harvey Lindsey, Bernice Lindsey, and Lorene Phillips. He is survived by both of his parents, his wife, son, daughter, granddaughter, four stepchildren, brother and sister-in-law, sister and brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, in-laws, many cousins, and a host of friends.
