Mark Leo Landoll, was born to Josephine and Mark Landoll Sr. on a farm east of Lawton, Oklahoma on September 24,1929. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy and served for four years, sailing on the U.S.S Frank E. Evans. After service, he attended the Spartan College of Aeronautics and received training as a pilot. After obtaining his education, Mark went on to serve as a flight engineer for the FAA for 30 years. Around this time he met his wife, Catherine Rother, at the Czech Hall in Yukon during a circle dance. On April 20,1960 they were married in Okarche, Oklahoma. They then moved to Oklahoma City and began what was to be a 62 year long love story. Throughout his career, Mark was able to travel the world and experience many unique cultures and countries including Greenland, Iceland, the Ascension Islands, the Philippines, the Azores, and various locales in Africa. One of Mark's greatest joys was building and flying each of his six experimental airplanes, each providing unique challenges. He especially loved taking family members up to enjoy the skies, sometimes enjoying himself a little too much by providing his passengers with some unexpected "thrill-inducing" maneuvers. He flew to the Oshkosh fly-in many summers, taking family with him when he could. The stories he brought home from this trip were always entertaining, from camping in the heat under the wing of the plane to spotting Tom Cruise amidst the crowd. Even after retirement, he remained heavily involved in the aviation world. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Landoll, his children Marcy Rivera Shiel, Marilyn Landoll, and Mike Landoll, his grandchildren Amy Schepers and husband Matt, Brandon Rivera and wife Melanie, Heather Timms and husband Landon, and 10 great grandchildren Malachi, Elijah, Noah, Solomon, Gideon, Bernadette, Benedict, Jack, Claire, and one on the way. He is also survived by his siblings Ruth Landoll, Flora Kaindl, Loretta Schraufnagel, Mary Jo McDonald, George Landoll, and Margeret Grogan. He was preceded in death by his parents Josephine and Mark Landoll Sr., and his siblings Teresa Luckowski, Rose Ann Foster, Leonard Landoll, Marcella Pastor, and James Landoll. Mark passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He was a lifetime devout Catholic, and there will be a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10am on Wednesday, July 13th followed by interment at the Okarche Cemetery at 2:30pm. He lived a full life and will be greatly missed. Fly high, Opa.
