Martha Ann Hoey

Martha Ann Kunkel Hoey, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Thursday December 23, 2010. Martha was born May 29, 1926 in Springfield, Mo. She graduated from St. Agnes High School and then attended Southwest Missouri State College where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Martha was an active volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II, and she went to work for American Airlines in Springfield Mo. where she was one of the first women in the country employed as a customer service agent. In 1951 Martha married her red-headed Irishman raised in Boston, MA, Thomas Hoey, Sr. They made their home in Oklahoma City and together raised five children. From 1961 to 1991 Martha worked at Will Rogers Airport as a customer service representative for TWA airlines. Martha was a member of St. Eugene's Parish and was active in the St. Rose Guild. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Mary Christine Kunkel, her brothers Bill and Bob Kunkel, her husband of 54 years, Thomas Joseph Hoey Sr., her son-in-law Stephen Fleet, and her grandson Robert Clark Fleet. Martha is survived by her daughter Betsy Fleet of Oklahoma City, OK, her sons Bill Hoey of Plymouth, MA, Patrick Hoey of Tulsa, OK, Tom Hoey Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sean Hoey of Austin, TX, her daughters-in-law Becky Hoey of Plymouth, MA, Cindy Hoey of Austin, TX and Tammy Hoey of Tulsa, OK. She also leaves behind her devoted grandchildren Michelle Schneider of Austin, TX, Sean Hoey of Plymouth, MA, Christopher and Jason Hoey of Tulsa, OK, Stephanie and Andrew Fleet of Oklahoma City, OK, Joshua Hoey, and Cassye and Cayla Braun of Austin, TX. Martha was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Alex, Cailyn and Brooke Schneider of Austin, TX. In addition Martha leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was well known for her sense of humor, her loyalty and devotion to her church and to her family. She was a pioneer among women leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter the importance of strength of character. She was deeply loved by her family and will be sorely missed. Visitation and a rosary service will be held Monday December 27th at 7:00 PM at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home 14624 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Eugene's Catholic Church on Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 29th. Burial will be held following the mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City. The family requests than in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the St. Eugene's Legacy campaign.
