Martin Allen Wheeler was born on October 1, 1963 at Holloman AFB, New Mexico to Harold Peyton Wheeler Jr. and Doris B. Wheeler. Marty departed this life on January 16, 2018 at the age of 54.
Marty was raised throughout the United States as the youngest child in an Air Force family. He joined the Air Force, continuing the family tradition. His last duty station was at Tinker AFB, where he met Teresa Hake, his wife for 25 years. He continued his civil service to his country by working in the environmental field. During this time, he obtained his Industrial Safety degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and was most recently an Environmental Engineer and the Air Quality Control Program Manager at Tinker AFB.
Marty had many varied interests. He enjoyed caving, was a long-time member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club, and was a proud Virginia Tech Hokie fan where he took great pleasure in attending the football games. He had a passion for reading and collecting books, as well as visiting antique stores for unique finds. Marty was a long-time volunteer for the Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue organization, which is where he found and fostered his much beloved canine companions.
Marty was greatly loved and will be missed by his family. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Tom Loeslein of Port Haywood, VA, his brother and sister-in-law Hal and Jeanne Wheeler of Silver Spring , MD, his niece and her husband Peyton and Chad Rowley of Midlothian, VA, his nephew Drew Loeslein of Virginia Beach, VA, and his grand-nephew Alden Rowley, who loved his GUM (Great Uncle Marty.)
A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 4:00pm at Smith-Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK. He will be interred at the Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, Virginia, with full military honors.
