Mary Alice Lusk Bates Bergin passed away peacefully early Friday morning after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer disease. Mary was born March 31, 1929 to Alexander Abraham Lusk and Harley Huggins Lusk, in Gadsden, Alabama. Mary came to Oklahoma at an early age and graduated from Classen High School. She also attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater OK. She was a loving and caring mother of two sons, a devoted wife and grandmother and certainly a joy to all who knew her. She had a lifelong love for music and dancing but most of all, was known for her beautiful smile. She had a wonderful association with her many friends from both inside and outside the Church. She was a devote Christian and attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where she met her husband of 18 years, Jerry Bergin. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Harley Lusk; a half-sister, Ruth; and step son Patrick Bergin. She is survived by sons, Phillip Wesley Bates and John Roddy Bates; daughter-in-law, Angel Bates; grandchildren, Brittany, Braxton, Hattie, Hope, Mia, and Reese Bates; step son, Mike Bergin and wife Betsy; step daughter-in-law, Pam Bergin; and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; father of her sons, Bill A. Bates; and loving and devoted husband, Jerry. While she is with her angels in heaven now, she was so fortunate to have one here on earth in Jerry. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Bellevue Nursing Home and their dedicated staff of caring people.
