Mary Gertrude 'Mary Martini Cirksena' Cirksena

Mary Martini Cirksena was born June 17, 1908 in Edgerton, MO to Max Frederick and Ada von Bothimer Martini. Mary passed peacefully from this life on January 26, 2013. The sixth of nine Martini children, Mary graduated from Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD. She taught Latin and English full time in Pierre, SD for one year, and later for many years was frequently called as a substitute teacher in Hastings, NE and Lincoln, NE. In 1930 Mary married Frank H. Cirksena and they soon moved to Hastings, NE where they lived 28 years, and then to Lincoln, NE where they lived17 years. In retirement, Mary and Frank moved to Annapolis, MD and then to Sarasota, FL where they enjoyed many more years together until Frank passed away in 1993. In 2001, Mary moved to Oklahoma City, OK to reside near family. Mary and Frank's three children are: Dr. William J. Cirksena (wife Molly) of Annapolis, MD; Mary Jane Holmes (husband Quentin) of Eugene, OR; and Kay Floyd (husband Richard) of Oklahoma City. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all eight siblings. Mary has 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren in Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland, Hawaii, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, and Massachusetts. The family extends our gratitude to all the staff at Quail Ridge Senior Living Center for their extraordinary love and care extended to our beloved "Grandma Mary." A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary Cirksena will be held at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, 2424 NW 50th Street in Oklahoma City at 2:00 p.m. on March 16, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd-Cirksena Memorial Flower Fund at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church.
