Mary Veronica McMahon was born to Delilah (Reagan) and Ralph McMahon on May 27, 1927 in Marathon, New York. She attended school in Marathon and worked on her family’s dairy farm until she graduated high school. After high school graduation, she attended Cortland State Teachers College where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in physical education.
After graduation from college, she worked at various schools in upstate New York as the Girls Athletic Association teacher. In 1959, she ventured west and took a job as a teacher for the Catholic Extension in in Killeen, Texas for two years. She returned to New York for a year to teach before returning to work with the Catholic Extension in Sterling, Oklahoma. It was in Sterling that she would meet the love of her life, Andrew Jacobi.
Mary and Andrew dated and eventually married on August 25th, 1962. They lived on Andrew’s farm in Sterling and would go on to have five children: Rev. Joseph Jacobi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Anne (deceased); David (Stacy) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Maureen (Maurice Clark) of Frisco, Texas; and Martin (Amy McElhaney) of Norman, Oklahoma. In 1969, they moved to Lone Grove, Oklahoma where they would live for 43 years.
They moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 2012 to be closer to their sons Martin and Joseph and would live the rest of their lives in Norman. Mary’s great love and rock, Andrew, passed away in Norman on May 8th, 2016.
Mary and Andrew have four granddaughters: Lauren (Patrick Mines) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Rachel (William Lewis) of Sanford, Florida; Caroline Jacobi of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Katie Clark of Frisco, Texas. They also have three great-grandchildren: Andrew, Elodie and Gabriel Mines of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mary has one living brother, Jim McMahon of New York, and five siblings who have preceded her in death: Rita, Richard, Elizabeth (Slocum), Ralph, and Paul.
Mary was an avid bowler and lover of physical education and sports. She loved teaching her children to play various team sports, bowl, golf, and even ski! She enjoyed substitute teaching when the kids were older and attending all of the athletic events of her children.
Mary was a voracious reader, loved to talk to anyone, loved music, travel, watching professional baseball, chocolate, all things Irish (especially Irish whiskey) and her Catholic faith, but above all loved her family and God.
Mary was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
