Mary Jane "Janie" Bell Maidt, age 92, passed away on May 15, 2017 in Oklahoma City. She was born October 9, 1924, in Lindsay, OK, daughter of Fannie Lindsay Bell and James Walker Bell, granddaughter of Lewis and Anita Lindsay, for whom the town was named, and of Albert and Edith Walker Bell, Oklahoma pioneers. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from Lindsay High School. She attended St. Mary's College, Terre Haute, Indiana, and was graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Maidt, her parents and her brother, James W. Bell, Jr. She is survived by her children, Margo Winfrey (Ron), Mari Imel (Dean), Bob Maidt (Karen), and Lindsay Maidt (Roberta). Grandchildren include Missy Henderson (Robin), Bryan Winfrey (Karen), Laura Webb (Jeremy), Benjamin Winfrey (Jessica), Gretchen Seibold (Leo), Barrett Winfrey (fiancée Julie), Bobby and Mason Maidt, Jacob, Stephen, Amy and Angie Maidt, and Lindsay Anna Maidt. She also enjoyed her 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Bell Galbreath, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed her many clubs and activities, including Christ the King Catholic Church, The Ladies of The Holy Sepulchre, Marcellin Study Club, Bell Choir (She loved ringing her big bells!), Pi Phi Lunch Bunch, Dig 'n' Hope Garden Club, Revidere Book Club, Preface Book Club, Friends Lunch Group, Swim Exercise Group, and several honorary organizations. In early years, she enjoyed tennis and golf at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club.
Janie was a knitter of considerable renown, winning several "Best in Show" and multiple other awards at the State Fair of Oklahoma. But, according to our beloved mom, BEST of all was her BIG FAMILY, the "Jewels in my crown!" In lieu of flowers, Mom hoped for donations to the Lindsay Historical Society, 312 S. Main St., Lindsay, OK, 73052, or to Christ the King School Educational Endowment Fund, or the charity of one's choice. At her request, private family services were held.
