Mary Katherine Thacker passed away in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017, at the age of 80. She was born in 1937 in Lubbock, Texas, and married Franklin Darrell Thacker in 1955. Out of that union, they had seven children and lived primarily in Oklahoma City. Mary worked at the Buyers Guide in Oklahoma City for over 25 years where she excelled in her career as a National and Major Accounts Representative. Many of her coworkers became lifelong friends.
To know Mary was to love her instantly. Her heart knew no limits when it came to caring for others. In addition to her children, Mary fulfilled the role of mother in the lives of many others. She would warmly welcome you into her home with a powerful hug, and was quick to offer a meal, a listening ear, or even a challenging game of scrabble if you were feeling particularly brave. Those who entered as strangers left as family and knew they would always have a seat at Mary's table.
She led a life that symbolized the triumph of the human spirit. We celebrate the incredible woman that she was and the gift of her love, which will live on forever.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Erin Thacker. She is survived by her sisters, Charlotte Lane Akard Johnson of Lubbock, TX and Glenell Dee Akard Welborn of Austin, TX; Daughters, Kerry Thacker of Seattle, WA, Lisa Williams and her husband David of Norman, Randi Thacker and Jill Thacker of Oklahoma City; sons, Tom Thacker and Scott Thacker of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren, Cassie Kotlarchik, Katie Williams, Dylin Thacker and Melia Thacker.
The family will be available to greet friends during visitation Sunday March 26 from 4 pm - 6pm. Services to celebrate Mary will be 2 pm Monday, March 27 at the Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel with interment to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
