Mary Dean Lawrence was born February 11, 1930 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and was the daughter to Chester and Allie Pickel. She passed away in peace surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 1st, 2015.
Her parents, three brothers and her loving and doting husband, Gray, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her 4 devoted sons: Gary Lawrence and wife Kathy of Edmond, Ok; Ronald Lawrence of Mountain Home, AR; Rex Lawrence and wife Kathy of Bixby, OK; and Kenneth Lawrence and wife Cathy of The Woodlands, TX; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. Mary loved her family and was very much loved and admired by each of them.
Mary graduated from Ponca City High School and married Gray on March 17,1950. They lived in several locations before moving to Okmulgee, OK in 1964, where they raised their family of four boys. Gray and Mary loved their years in the town of Okmulgee and the grandchildren have fond memories of trips to see them there. In 2002, they relocated to Oklahoma City, OK. Gray and Mary were active members at the Quail Springs Baptist Church.
Mary was known by all as the woman who could do most anything. She was a master seamstress, china painter, upholster, quilter and needle worker. She especially enjoyed using her talents to bless her family. She sewed quilts and curtains for her grandchildren and blankets and bedding for her great-grandchildren. She made a scrapbook for each of her nine grandchildren when they graduated High School and attended so many of their recitals, sporting events, and activities. They thought she was the world's greatest grandma. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominos and cards with friends and she loved to win. She was a blessing and brought joy to all of us.
A memorial service will be held at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home 14624 N May Av in Oklahoma City on Thursday, February 5th at 1:30 pm.
Memorial gifts may be made to Susan B Komen Foundation for breast cancer.
