Mary Odell Dougherty

Mary Odell Dougherty passed away surrounded by her family on March 5, 2015 under hospice care in Mercy Hospital. She was born October 21, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles and Ione Grundy Odell. She graduated from Southwestern State University in Weatherford in 1945 with a teaching degree in math and English. In 1946 she married her loving husband of 68 years, Francis Kelly Dougherty. Kelly preceded her in death this past April. They lived in Clinton, Elk City, Lubbock, Texas, and Oklahoma City before retiring to the family farm in Hinton, Oklahoma. Twelve years ago they moved back to Oklahoma City and into St. Ann's Retirement Center. Following a stroke in August she moved to St. Katharine's in El Reno where she could get additional care. She is survived by their six sons and their families. F. From their children they were also blessed with 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mom never missed an opportunity to pay reverence to God, love and admire her family, read to a child, offer friendship and assistance to anyone in need and set an example just by being who she was. She will be missed and remembered by everyone she touched. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the entire Mercy Hospital staff whose dedicated and compassionate care for mom was exceptional. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Katharine Drexel Retirement Center, El Reno or Mercy Hospital Foundation. Evening Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2015 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, March 9, 2015 both at St. Joachim Chapel at St. Ann's Retirement Center. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hinton, Okla.
