Mary Kathryne West Quade, affectionately known as wife, mother, DeeDee, and Aunt Mary, was welcomed into Glory by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with “well done, my good and faithful servant” on November 21, 2024. She was born March 16, 1925, in Oklahoma City to Lillian Ivey and Maury West, the 5th of 7 children, 5 older brothers, Maury A. West, Jr., William G. West, A. Kelly West, John Ivey West, and Robert Lee West, and a younger sister, Sally Ann West McCain. She graduated from Classen High School. She was a member of Happy Hearts and Merry Maids and worked for Oklahoma Gas Co.
On February 17, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart and next-door neighbor, Warren Scott Quade.
As a child, she loved playing jacks and hopscotch. Later in life, she developed a love of dancing and especially enjoyed dancing to the music of Kipcuts (?) at Luby’s Cafeteria. In addition to dancing, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge and painting with watercolors. She was a gifted writer and wrote hundreds of poems; a book was published with a few of her favorite poems. Mary K. became a realtor and worked for Lloyd Merrill and J.W. Coyle. She was a faithful follower of her Lord Jesus. She attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and later transferred to Chapel Hill United Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and a granddaughter, Ashley Susan Black. She is survived by her two daughters, Marcia Christofferson (David), and Susie Gray (Tommy); three grandchildren, Jenny Gray Ferguson (David), Marianne Gray Sharpe (Aaron) all of Oklahoma City, and Dax Christofferson of Denver, CO; and great grandchildren, Gray Major Ferguson, Davis Lee and Tom Cooper Sharpe, all of OKC and Quade, Ram, and Gabby Cunningham of Littleton, CO. Additionally, her nephew and niece, Kelly and Pam West were such blessings to her these past 20 years following the death of Warren. Mary was very fond of her grandparents, Mary Jane Hancock West and Archa Kelly West, M.D., the first Dean of the OU School of Medicine, as well as her cousin, Kelly McGuffin West, M.D.
Our deepest thanks and appreciation for all the angels at Epworth Villa HH4, for their tender loving care for our Mother. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you!!
The family will have a private graveside service.
