MAX NORRIS RAHE - WORLD WAR II VETERAN PASSES AWAY JUST A FEW DAYS SHORT OF HIS 101st BIRTHDAY Max Norris Rahe passed away September 8, 2017 just a few days short of his 101st birthday. He was born September 26, 1916 in Crescent, Oklahoma to Wilbert and Seretta Rahe and was the youngest of eight children, all of whom preceded him in death. Max was just a baby when his oldest brother, Durrill Rahe, joined the service during World War I and died on the battlefield in France. The American Legion Hall in Crescent is named Durrill Rahe Post 200. On June 6, 1941, Max married Phyllis Card. He joined the Army Air Corps on January 7, 1944. As a pilot commander of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber, he flew 35 combat missions. After he completed his missions he was given three choices: re-enlist for another 35 missions, receive an honorable discharge or fly gasoline and supplies to the front line to General Patton. He chose to fly the gasoline to the General, piloting the Douglass C-47. He was honorably discharged on July 7, 1945 and returned to Crescent where he farmed until his retirement at the age of 95. Max was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Card Rahe; his parents, and two sisters, Erma Harman and Orpha Favor and five brothers, Durrill, Cecil, Forrest, Delbert and Clifford. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Rahe Lundquist, Edmond, OK; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lundquist Pollard, Olathe, KS, and Christopher Lundquist (Melinda) of Littleton, CO; and five great grandchildren, Davin, Talen and Hudson Pollard and Vivian and Sebastian Lundquist.
