Maxine Exona Weber Asch, 90, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away Friday, June 23, 2017.
Maxine was born on a farm south of Anadarko, Oklahoma on December 4, 1926 to Virginia Crumm Weber and Walter Edwin Weber, both deceased.
A born educator with an inquisitive mind, Maxine was a lifelong learner. Immediately following her graduation from Broxton High School, she earned a temporary wartime teaching certificate and taught in the elementary grades at Broxton. Years later, she finished her college degree at Central State University and became a middle school English teacher at Hoover Middle School. After being in the classroom for many years, Maxine returned again to Central State University, earning a master's degree in Library Science to become a school librarian at Webster Middle School
As an active member of her beloved Nichols Hills United Methodist Church since the early 1950's, she volunteered through the years in many capacities—the church library, where her calligraphy still labels shelves, was perhaps her favorite.
Affectionately known as Max, Mackie, Aunt Mac, Grammy, Ghee, Mums, Mom and Mrs. Asch (to scores of her former students), Maxine was creative in every way—a talented calligrapher, accomplished cook, gifted artist and writer. Recently she wrote, "As the days progress, so do my limitations. I find myself groping for the dignity to accept the progression with grace for the journey."
A gregarious and gracious hostess with a contagious laugh, Maxine especially loved to host friends and family for backyard dinners with plenty of barbecue brisket, homemade ice cream, and Long Island "Iced" Tea. Maxine loved her Mulberry Lane home of 61 years. She adored her neighbors, they loved her too and enhanced her life. A watch party for the Redbud Classic Run was an annual event on Mulberry Lane. Maxine invited friends, family and neighbors, decorated, placed lawn chairs in her driveway, served refreshments and enthusiastically cheered the runners.
Maxine was exceptionally proud of her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. And how they loved their Grammy Ghee! She had a way of playing games, reading, and listening so they all had fun and learned something new.
Maxine leaves behind her sister Imogene McKnight; daughters Marydith Williams (Paul) And Amy Kessler (Kent); grandchildren Nathaniel Fincher, Zachary Fincher (Tina), Maxwell Morgan (Cameron), Katherine Kessler, and Keaton Kessler; great grandchildren Mya, Lucy, Rae, and Floyd Fincher; and scores of nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by "love of her life" husband Theodore J. Asch, siblings Melba Clift, Thelma Sample, Esmond Weber, Raymond Weber, Angus Weber, Charles Weber, Wilma Rice, and many, many friends – she missed all terribly…as we will all miss her!
