She was born on March 22, 1945 in Miami, OK. Her parents, Charles and Wanda Sellers have preceded her in death. Melinda was a graduate of John Marshall high school, Class of '63. She attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was honored as Homecoming Queen her junior year. She majored in Journalism and completed her Masters in 1978 in Professional writing. She spent 7 years living in North Carolina with her husband and children. She wrote and edited for various local newspapers while raising a young family. Upon returning to Oklahoma City in the summer of 1980, Melinda spent most of her time supporting her children through their school, attending every game, function and performance. There wasn't one missed. Before her son Braden graduated, she co-hosted Casady's 40th Anniversary Auction and was President of the Mother's Club. Once her daughter was in high school, she began working at the University of Oklahoma as Director of Development of the College of Arts and Sciences. After her daughter graduated OU, she spent many years living all over the country as Director of Development for various hospital foundations. Her love of her family, Oklahoma and the Sooners brought her back home in the last several years. Melinda was a true gem. She touched so many people. Besides being a mother, her greatest role was being a grandmother to her 6 grandchildren. She believed in each one of them, knowing they were special and knew they would go on to do amazing things in this world. May her genuine love and devotion for so many of us be an inspiration to continue her legacy.
