Michael "Mike" Hughes

From the first smell of gasoline, as a kid it led Mike to a long career as a mechanic. After graduating from Dill City High School in 1972 he continued his passion for tinkering with engines by graduating from OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. One of Mikes first jobs, other than working on the family farm was with John Deere in Cordell. Mike loved living on the farm. His 4H Cotton Project was featured in the "Progressive Farmer" magazine with his picture on the front cover. The family farm was purchased by Owen and Esther Hughes around 1928. Mikes parents took over the farm and moved the family there in July of 1956. Mike and his wife Nancy married in 1986. His daughter Amanda was born in 1987. Mike is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Amanda Husband-Temple, Melinda Cockrell-Barnes (1982) and her husband Michael; grandsons Jonathan (1997), Gavin (2001), Xander (2004), and Joshua (2006). Mike is also survived by his brother Eugene J. Hughes, sisters Ann Hughes-Bohanan, Kathleen Hughes-Lane; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a whole host of friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents B. Eugene Hughes and Rita Ann Perring-Hughes as well as a granddaughter Kiara Barnes. Mike was a personable man who lived life and never knew a stranger; making friends easily wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by all.
