Nancy Ann passed away at home March 12, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born January 28, 1933, in Cherokee, OK, the daughter of Nile and Magdalene Joachim. She moved with her family to Alva when she was around 7 years old.
She met Kenneth Lee Kendrick in June 1949 as she and a mutual friend were walking to downtown Alva. Ken said "he picked her up off the street" and thought she was cute; they were engaged in 1950.
Ken served in the National Guard 45th Unit Signal Company. After receiving orders that his unit was being activated and he would be sent overseas, he returned to Alva from Fort Polk, LA, and married Nancy on February 4, 1951, on Sunday after services.
Ken and Nancy went to Wichita, KS, where he interviewed for several jobs; hearing only that he needed to go back to college. He returned to Alva to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Nancy quit college and began working at Central State Bank while Ken attended college. After he received his degree, the couple, along with their new daughter, Kathryn, moved to Oklahoma City. She went to work for Redisco and handled retail financing for Delaney's, an appliance retail store.
In 1958, Nancy went to work for Fenner Company as an accountant. Mr. Fenner passed away and some of his clients asked Nancy to start her own business so she could continue to take care of them. She put an old metal desk from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office in her living room and went to work.
Over the years, Nancy took correspondence courses and accounting classes and earned her CPA in 1967. Nancy was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants from 1967 to 2013. She also served as Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President. Nancy was appointed by Govenor Nigh to the Oklahoma Accountancy Board where she served for 5 years. Nancy had her own business from 1960 to 2013, when she retired at the age of 80.
Nancy was very gifted with her hands. She quilted, knitted, crocheted, sewed, tatted, painted and drew. She also was very talented in music, playing the clarinet, flute, piccolo, piano and organ.
She mostly enjoyed being Nana to her granddaughters. Spoiling and making memories at the lake house.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn Kendrick-Buckalew and her husband Monte, and Laura Ann Baer; four granddaughters, Kelsey Winters and her husband Adam Winters, Lainie Buckalew, Sarah Hale and her husband Scott Hale, and Rachel Baer; great grandchildren, Fitz and Amber Winters; brother, Wm. "Bill" Joachim and his wife, LaDonna, son-in-law, Duane Baer, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ken, this past September.
