Isave (Elizabeth) Nguyen Thi Ngai passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 94.
Nguyen Thi Ngai was born on January 1, 1930, in Ha Lang, Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. In 1950, she married Tran Ba Tuan, a courageous soldier of the South Vietnam Army. Together, they faced many challenges, including leaving Vietnam in 1975 to start a new life in Oklahoma City.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish for over 48 years, ever since the Vietnamese community was established at the Cathedral.
Nguyen Thi Ngai was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; her family and relatives were the center of her life. She was known for her exceptional cooking, especially her famous bun bo Hue, which showcased the warmth and hospitality of a traditional Vietnamese grandmother. She had a passion for fishing and was often seen with her husband at Hefner Lake and Lake Texoma, filling their basket with fish late into the evening. She also took great pride in her garden, generously sharing her bountiful harvest with friends and neighbors. She loved walking, a routine she enjoyed daily at the mall with her husband. After his passing, she continued these walks with friends and neighbors. She cherished having short chats on the phone with her sons, daughters-in-law, grandsons, granddaughters, and many godchildren, sponsored children, nieces, and nephews.
Nguyen Thi Ngai will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Thank you for keeping Isave Nguyen Thi Ngai in your thoughts and prayers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Catholic Charities.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
