Nona Lee Smith

Nona Lee Spivey Mattox Smith was born on October 21, 1915, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 18, 2011. She graduated from Central High School in1932. She married Joe Mattox in 1934 and they were married for 27 years until his death in 1968. Joe was County Clerk of Oklahoma County from 1961 until his death. They had one daughter, Mardeena Mattox, who was born December 5, 1947, and went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2009. Through the years she was Deputy County Clerk, employed by the OKC Home Builder's Association, HBT Architectural Firm, Oklahoma Housing authority, Endocrinology Society and then retired in 1975. She met her truest love, Ralph Smith, and they were married in 1970. Through their 16 year marriage they had very happy years. They had many exciting trips traveling the world, including trips to the Holy Land, India, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Northwest Canada, Montreal, and all of Europe. She had many friends, especially those who were also friends of Bill W's. Through her 35 years of sobriety she sponsored twenty women. She spoke at numerous conferences across the country. She was often asked to speak at meetings throughout our local area. Her sobriety was an inspiration to many and a legacy for all. She was also a member of Mayfair Church of Christ. It was her strong belief in the Lord that helped her through the great losses she endured, especially that of her daughter, who she missed every day. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter; Mardeena Mattox; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Spivey; and her husbands, Joe Mattox and Ralph Smith. She is survived by her grandson, Kirk Stroud; her loyal employee for more than 20 years, Peggy Thompson; and her many friends.
