Oliver Richard Kirk, Jr.

Oliver Richard Kirk Jr., age 77, passed away rather suddenly Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. He was born Oct. 21, 1934, in Little Rock, AR. He was married to Peggy Kirk, to whom he always referred as the "light of his life." Richard retired from the US Air Force in 1974 and then began a second career managing real estate property. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of India Shrine, where he was very active with the Shriner's Hospital Charities. He was also a member of Legion of Honor and served as commander in 2002 and 2011. He was an Ambassador and a member of VFW. Richard was a "boy who loved cars." As a member of the Mercedes Benz Club, he enjoyed traveling with the club and enthusiastically joined fellow members touring and driving on racetracks, including the Indianapolis 500. He was a longtime member of Wilmont Place Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for many years and has been a member of First Baptist Church of Edmond more recently. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Sophronia Bowman, father, Oliver Richard Kirk Sr., two brothers, Earl Carney Jr. and John Carl Kirk, the mother of his four children, Hazel Hagood, and his wife of 30 years, Colleen Kirk. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kirk; five children, Michael Lee Kirk and wife Bethany of Sacramento, CA, Marty Kirk and wife JoZann of Grand Junction, CO, Perry Kirk and wife Melinda of Grand Prairie, TX, Terry Hodson and husband Dan of Wichita, KS, and Benny Trantham of Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.; and siblings, Wanda and Hansen Clark of San Antonio, TX, Linda Arnold of Van Buren, AR, David Kirk and wife Linda of Cicero, NY, Danny Carney of Fort Smith, AR, Grover "Butch" Carney and wife Sandy of Van Buren, AR, and Ronald Carney and wife Jeanie of Rudy, AR. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Smith & Kernke.
