Patricia Lea (Pat) Darcey was born on November 25, 1934 and died peacefully on August 1, 2016 surrounded by family after a courageous battle against leukemia. Pat was the first child of William Howard and Jessie Lea McLain Boatman. Pat grew up and graduated from high school in 1952 in Woodward, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma, and later graduated from Oklahoma State University.
Pat was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Pete Darcey; and her parents, Howard and Lea Boatman. This amazing woman made a positive impact on many lives. She will be remembered by her eight children and their spouses, Deanne Smith, Hank and Liz Ann Darcey, Dan and Barbara Darcey, Mallory and Jim Hamilton, Carrie and Mike Cooke, Mike and Rosalba Darcey, Maggie Darcey, Chris and Erin Darcey; as well as her fourteen cherished grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Boatman and Mallory Boatman; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Abby Boatman.
Pat had a never-ending love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; an artistic ability that was unmatched; an adventurous spirit all the way up until the end; and a love of adventure she passed on to each of her children. Pat was a beautiful, strong, independent woman before it was popular.
Pat cherished her friendships with those in her weekly dinner group; her monthly bridge club of college sorority sisters; and a group of lifelong friends that have met monthly to play bridge for over fifty years. Pat could often be found rustling up another game of bridge with a group of close friends hoping for a grand slam on a Friday afternoon.
Pat was a small business owner and it was with a simple, humble spirit that With Joy Nativities began its journey over thirty years ago. It brings great happiness to her family that she has brought joy to collectors around the world with her wool-covered wooden donkeys, camels, cows, goats, sheep, oxen and lambs that encircle a Mary, Joseph, and a Humble baby Jesus that is nestled in a cloud of wool and pecan twigs.
She will be remembered with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday, August 5, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 9th & Boulevard in Edmond. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
