The youngest of six children of Clement and Delia Brou, Paul Charles Brou was born March 26, 1940 in Hohen Solms, La. He attended Catholic grade school and high school in Donaldsonville, La. In 2003, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ascension Catholic High School. A proud lifelong Tiger fan, he graduated with honors from LSU in 1962 with a degree in Accounting. Upon completion of college, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Zeringue, and they quickly relocated to Ft Benjamin Harris, Indiana then onto Ft McClellan, Al. where he served from 1962-1964 in the U.S. Army Finance Corps. He received the Third Army Certificate of Achievement in 1964.
He began his long and very distinguished career at Price Waterhouse in 1964 in New Orleans. He worked in the New Orleans office until 1974 when he was transferred to the Dallas Office. In 1975, he was transferred to the Oklahoma City office. He was Partner in Charge of the Tax Department until his retirement from Price WaterhouseCoopers LLP in June, 2000, after 36 years of service.
Throughout his life, Paul's Catholic faith was very important to him. A 42-year member of Christ the King Catholic Church, he served as Finance Board Chairman and was on the committee for many years thereafter. He was currently on the finance committee for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma. His other community activities in Oklahoma City included: member of the Finance Committee of St. Anne's Retirement Home of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma, former President PTSO McGuinness Catholic High School, Member of the Awareness Committee of McGuinness Catholic High School Major Building Campaign, past chairman of an Allocation Committee of the United Way of Oklahoma City, past chairman of the New Members Committee (the OK Club) of the Greater Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce.
His professional affiliations included the following: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Society of Louisiana CPAs, Oklahoma Society of CPAs and Past Chairman of the Oklahoma Tax Institute, past chairman of the Tax Committee of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, and member of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Oklahoma City. He was a 25 plus year member of the Tuesday Men's Tax/Attorney lunch group. More recently, he enjoyed his Willowbrook Neighborhood Men's lunch group.
Paul and Barbara's 54-year marriage was blessed with six children and countless precious memories. Paul enjoyed traveling with friends and family, cheering on his Tigers, attending his children and grandchildren's' sporting events, and especially enjoying family vacations in Gulf Shores, Al.
Also very important to him were his treasured friendships in Oklahoma City. He enjoyed the many get together and trips that he and Barbara shared with their friends.
Paul considered his greatest joy and achievement his family – his wife, children, grandchildren and soon to be great granddaughter. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than finding his kids and grandkids at his front door. Family dinners and vacations were special and nothing was more precious than a houseful of loved ones – loud as they might be. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Barbara and his five children – Sharon (Ed) Tonseth, Leslie (Eric) Shaffer, Dana (Ronald) Hill, David Brou, Jennifer (David) Thielke , his grandchildren, Drew and Rachel Tonseth , Sarah Tonseth Piper (Michael), Lauryn, Emma Kate, and Scott Shaffer, Madeleine, Marlee and Austin Hill, and Mia, Grace, and Ava Thielke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Delia Brou, his siblings, Thelma Brou Michel, Fr. Hubert Brou, Marvin Brou, Doris Brou Blanchard, and his infant daughter, Renee Claire Brou.
With his family surrounding him and following a struggle with heart issues, Paul joined his heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.
Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, April 1st at 10:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church. Because of Paul's strong faith and belief in Catholic education and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Christ the King School Scholarship Endowment Fund or the Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School General Scholarship Fund.
