Peter Lowden Holloway, 66, passed away Monday with his family by his side at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. A pioneer and local icon in the restaurant and hospitality scene, Peter was born March 26, 1954 in Billings, Montana to William and Ann Holloway. They moved to Oklahoma City where he attended John Marshall High School, and when his family moved to Covington, Louisiana, Peter returned to Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor's in Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. It was a server job at The Hungry Peddler during college that introduced Peter to the hospitality industry. By the time they opened the original Pepperoni Grill in 1990, Peter was a managing partner of the Val-Gene Associates restaurant group that gave him his start. In 1995, Peter and his wife Sheree, whom he met through the late Tad Blood, opened Cafe 501 in Edmond, and they expanded their corner of 5th and Boulevard with The Boulevard Steakhouse in 1998, the first prime steakhouse in Oklahoma. The Holloway Restaurant Group continued its success by opening 501 Classen Curve in 2010 and their newest addition, Sparrow Modern Italian in 2019, adding to a remarkable list of over 25 restaurants Peter was involved in. Peter served as Chairman of the Board of the Oklahoma Restaurant Association in 1996 and remained on the board and involved in the Oklahoma hospitality industry throughout his career, imparting his wisdom for the greater good of the restaurant community. Family and restaurants are intertwined with the Holloway's, with the businesses remaining a family affair, and Peter's love for his family matched only by his love of providing top notch hospitality to friends and strangers alike. After a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and complications from COVID-19, we rest easy knowing Peter is now at peace. To leave you with his own words of wisdom: "Be kind, for everyone is fighting their own battle" and we know Peter fought one hell of a battle and lived his life to the fullest. Peter is survived by his wife, Sheree; brother, Bill; sisters, Susan and Margaret; sons, Andrew and his wife Ali, Jeffrey, and Hirst; daughter, Alexandra; granddaughter, Mattison; and his loving dogs.In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider a donation to the Oklahoma Restaurant Association's Oklahoma Hospitality Foundation in Peter's name. To do so, please visit their website or contact jim@okrestaurants.com. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date when it is safer to gather.
