Phyllis Roof Cohlmia (86) was peacefully promoted to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 19, 2023. She died of complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Thomas, Oklahoma, on May 21, 1937, to Ocie and Lyda Roof.Phyllis grew up in Weatherford, OK, graduated from Weatherford High School then attended Southwestern State College, where she met her husband Woody and graduated in 1959 with her degree in education. She taught school in Dallas while her husband Woody completed dental school.She married the love of her life, Dr. Woodrow Cohlmia on September 12, 1959, and together they settled and raised their three children in Oklahoma City. She was a devoted, daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend.Phyllis was always involved in her children's schools, activities, and sports. She was an accomplished artist. Her beautiful oil paintings adorn the walls of her home (and others) and her many handmade afghans are works of art as well. Over the years she had cottage businesses selling clothing, baked goods, and jams, and was known as The Muddobber for the lovely ceramics that she made and sold. She gave her time and talents to the church and her family and served her Lord Jesus Christ through church communities, Bible Study Fellowship, Christian Women's Club, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Dental Auxiliary.Phyllis worked for her son Dr. Jeff as the receptionist for Cohlmia Orthodontics for almost 20 years. She loved working there and took a genuine interest in all the patients and their families. She shared recipes with the parents and brought a lot of laughter to the office.Phyllis was joyful and had a wonderful sense of humor, her antics are the source of many "Phyllis Stories" that will be long told and remembered.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Woody Cohlmia; her parents, Ocie and Lyda Roof; infant brother, Edwin Dale Roof; sister Kathryn and husband Linard Laughlin; sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence and Harry Kouri; Josephine and Ted Shadid; Fred and Liz Cohlmia; Gordon and Minerva Cohlmia; Velma and Phil Swyden; George Cohlmia; Margaret and Sam Homsey; Elsie and Dr. Floyd Simon; and Dr. Ray and Samara Cohlmia.She is survived by her daughter, Kim and husband Jim Musgrove; and sons, Dr. Jeff and wife Lori Cohlmia; David and wife Paula Cohlmia; grandchildren, Sarah and husband Ian Wong-Welch, Gabe Cohlmia; and Cassidy Cohlmia; and great-grandsons, Brayden Wong-Welch and Hudson Wong-Welch. She is also survived by her sisters and brother: Belva Settles, Rita Gregory, Dwayne "Ocie" and wife Johna Roof. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.Our family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Matt, Kim, Abena, Kenzie, Delisha, Benjamin, and many others for caring for and loving our mom so well.Visitation will be Thursday, August 31, from 5-7 pm at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home. A Graveside will be held Friday, September 1, at 10:30 am, at Rose Hill Cemetery, with Celebration of Life Services following at 1:00 at Crossings Community Church Chapel. A reception will follow.
