Rebecca Louise (Harrison) Miller, age 93, died peacefully at the Around the Clock Care Home in Carrollton, Texas on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Born in Oklahoma City on March 6, 1917, to Oliver and Rose (Stearley) Harrison, Rebecca graduated from Central High School and then earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music from Oklahoma City University. During World War II she volunteered with the USO and it was through this service that she met the love of her life, Darrell Leason Miller, who was in the Army Air Corps assigned to Will Rogers Field. Their courtship was interrupted by his deployment overseas in Africa and Europe but they married January 18, 1945, after his return to the states and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary prior to Darrell's death in 2002. Rebecca worked many years as secretary to the Dean of the School of Music at OCU but her most passionate work was in making a home for her family. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in a number of leadership and teaching positions as well as serving a full-time mission with Darrell in Whiteville, NC. Music was always important in her life. She was active in the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, sang with the Relief Society Singing Mothers, and was organist and accompanist to church congregations for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, and her brother Stearley Harrison. She is survived by three sons, Lee (Sherry) Miller of Langhorne, PA, Kent (Mary) Miller of McFarland, WI, and Melvin (Marilyn) Miller of Boise, ID, and a daughter, Kristina (Alan) Pepperdine of Carrollton, TX; as well as 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
