Renee Marie Moorad

On September 15, 2015 in New York City, after a courageous battle against cancer, Renée Marie Moorad was summoned by the Lord to her heavenly home. Renee was born on November 30, 1984 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is survived by her dedicated mother and caretaker, Maha Assaleh, her humbled brother, Randy Moorad, nephew/Godson Michael Moorad, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends whom she considered siblings around the globe. She is predeceased by her beloved father Assaf (Tony) Moorad. Renée was a dedicated student with a thirst for knowledge that was insatiable. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences from the University of Oklahoma in 2007, her Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2011, and was a member of the New York State Bar. She was pursuing her L.L.M in International and Comparative Law from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. Renée was the epitome of a self-made, Sooner-born, Sooner-bred superstar. She always put others before herself and was the most loyal friend you could have. Renée had high hopes, aspirations and dreams for all of mankind, unmatched by any we've ever known. She was a kind, compassionate, loving soul who believed strongly in, and fought for, justice and equality for all. She was inspired by the leadership of John F. Kennedy, the literary works of Kahlil Gibran, and the activism of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She was dedicated to civil rights at home and human rights abroad, especially in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. As a staff attorney at the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee she advanced these goals while also spearheading the effort to have a Kahlil Gibran postage stamp issued by the USPS. Most recently she was employed with Real Foundations, an international real estate firm in Dallas, Texas. Everyone fortunate enough to know Renée knew she was an avid Sooners, Thunder, and Cowboys fan, and a proud Oklahoman. Most importantly, as an Orthodox Christian, she was very devout and a proud alumni of the Antiochian Village and was active in her home parish of St. Elijah in Oklahoma City and her adopted parish of Ss. Peter & Paul in Potomac, Maryland. Renée will forever be with us in our hearts and our spirits. Although her time on earth was short, she touched the lives of every person who crossed her path, and lived her life to the fullest. Renée will be laid to rest near her father and grandmother whom she adored dearly. The viewing will take place Friday, September 25, at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 North May Avenue Oklahoma City, OK 73013; followed by the wake (7pm) at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 15000 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 26 (2pm), at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church with burial to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 Northwest Grand Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73118. May her beautiful memory be eternal. Renée Marie Moorad: forever young!
