Reverend Anthony Nguyen Ngoc Bao, 96, a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City died Monday, August 17, 2015 in Oklahoma City. Father Bao was born on May 20, 1919 in Ninh Binh Province to Dong Thi Sen and Nguyen Van Hoa. Father Bao attended Major Seminary in Phát-Diem and was ordained on March 13, 1948 at the Cathedral of Phát-Diem. Following his ordination he taught Latin, French and music at the Minor Seminary of Phuc Nhac. In April 1975, Father Bao fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. Now a refugee, he was assigned to St. Francis Xavier Church, Enid shortly after his arrival in Oklahoma. He eagerly and faithfully served the Vietnamese community that had quickly been established in Oklahoma in the late 1970s. In 1979, Father Bao was assigned to Saint John the Baptist Church, Edmond. In June 1980, he became Associate Pastor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Oklahoma City. On Christmas Eve, 1994, the Parish of Saint Andrew Dung-Lac was established in Oklahoma City and Father Bao became its first pastor. Father Bao became a US citizen on November 19, 1981 and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City on October 22, 1982. Father Bao's brother and sister predeceased him. He is survived by many nephews and nieces and other family members. A Vigil service will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, August 21 at Saint Andrew Dung-Lac Catholic Church, 3115 SW 59th Street, Oklahoma City. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3214 N. Lake Avenue, Oklahoma City with interment at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7801 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City.
