Rhonda Chism Norton, 61, passed away on April 1, 2019 after a sudden illness, in Oklahoma City, OK, surrounded by loving family. She was the only child of Linus P. Chism, Jr., and Glynda L. Chism. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, on February 28, 1958.
Rhonda attended Oklahoma City public schools and graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1976. Rhonda earned her nursing degree from Oklahoma State University and worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital. She had recently earned her 30 year service pin.
Rhonda married Bruce Norton in 1976, and had two children of whom she was extremely proud, Miranda Norton of San Diego, CA, and Johnny Norton, Crescent, OK.
She dearly loved all kinds of animals and nature. Rhonda had a particular gift to notice things in nature off the beaten path that others would never see. She saw beauty and appreciated it. She had a calling as a nurse, and she was especially good at it. We will miss her gentle and unassuming ways. Rhonda liked to travel and enjoyed music. She was a tremendous THUNDER fan, and if you had a bad word to say about Russell Westbrook, you'd better not say it to Rhonda.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her mother, Glynda Chism; her husband, Bruce Norton; and her grandmother, Marguerite F. Warren. She is survived by her children, Miranda and Johnny Norton; her special love & Soulmate of more than 20 years, Carl Malkin; and her father, Linus P. Chism. She is also survived and beloved by a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Rhonda will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 2 pm at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home & Crematory, 14624 N May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134. In lieu of flowers donations in Rhonda's name may be made to the Russell Westbrook "Why Not?" Foundation or the Toby Keith Foundation, OK Kid's Korral Children's Charities.
The family would like to express Heartfelt Thanks to the staff of the 7th floor ICU (701) at Baptist Integris Hospital, OKC, for the loving care extended to Rhonda and her entire family.
