Richard Thomas Devero

Richard Thomas “Dick” Devero passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024. Dick was born on March 3, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Leo and Ruth (Garner) Devero. He graduated from Will Rogers High School before attending and graduating from Oklahoma A&M in 1954. While in high school, Dick met the love of his life Carroll “Teddy” Hopper. They married on January 23, 1954. Their 70 years of marriage was a blessing and an example to all who knew them.

Dick served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for 16 months. After his tour of duty, Dick joined Gustin-Bacon as a manager, locating and relocating many times throughout the U.S. In 1969, Dick and Teddy moved to Oklahoma City where Dick started Continental Water Systems of Oklahoma.

Dick’s life and his priorities were grounded in his faith, family and friends, always placing a priority on service to others. Dick and Teddy joined St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where they have been active parishioners for over 50 years. Over the years Dick served his parish as an usher, a Steven Minister, and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul and Mobile Meals ministries. Some of his most impactful ministry came over a chocolate chip cookie, cup of coffee or walk as a listener, mentor and prayer partner.

Dick’s devotion to his family was steadfast. His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews felt his great love through his selfless support. He was blessed with many friends throughout his life but his 87-year long friendship with Sam Loy was one most cherished.

Dick enjoyed running, fishing, golfing, and gardening and was an avid Oklahoma State fan, especially wrestling. Dick also enjoyed traveling, and he and Teddy made as many trips as possible to Maine, one of their favorite destinations.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lawrence Devero and nephew Greg Devero. He is survived by his wife Teddy, daughter Linda and husband Hershel Meadows, Fort Worth, TX; son John Devero, Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren Kristin, and husband Bailey McGuire, Fort Worth, TX; Alan and Garner Devero Oklahoma City, OK; two great grandchildren Emma and Reeves McGuire and his beloved sister Jeannie Alaback, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone at Integris Hospice House for your loving care and compassion provided to Dick and our family during his final journey.
