Dr. Stansberry passed away Wednesday, April 20th after a long battle with Alzheimer's in Edmond, OK. He was born in Oklahoma City to Cecil and Lillian Stansberry on October 8, 1928. Dr. Stansberry attended and graduated Capitol Hill High School in 1946. He then went on to Oklahoma City University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Omega, and graduated in 1950. From 1950-1953 he served as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He then went on to George Washington School of Medicine where he graduated in 1958. From 1958-1961, he completed his residency at St. Anthony's hospital. In 1961, he set up his OB/GYN practice and faithfully cared for patients until November of 2009 when he retired and closed his practice. Dr. Stansberry was also very involved with the Republican Party and served as a State Senator from 1965-1974. During that time he was a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach in 1968. Dr. Stansberry was an honorable family man who enjoyed sports, music, horse racing, and especially Oklahoma Sooners football. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Cecil and Howard Stansberry. He is survived by his wife Leigh Stansberry, son Fr. Rick Stansberry, step daughter Caryl Leffel, daughters Ashleigh Schluter and husband Justin; and Erin Phillips and husband Tom, and grandchildren Ryan, Emily, Autumn, and Jason. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in support of Alzheimer's research or a charity of your choice. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Sunday, April 24th from 3pm to 5pm at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City.
