Robert Lee "Bob" Rollins passed away September 14, 2017 in Tulsa, OK - a long time resident of Oklahoma City. Bob was born May 18, 1932 in Noble, OK to Comer and Gladys Stufflebean Rollins.
He attended N.E. High School and graduated from St. Gregory's High School in Shawnee, OK. Upon graduation, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma from 1950-1954 and graduated with a B.A. degree in Business. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1956 as a Naval officer on the Destroyer USS Ozbourn with the 7th Fleet during the Korean War.
In 1961, Bob became the Association Executive for the Oklahoma Consumer Finance Association. During that time, he received the national organization's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award from NCFA. He worked for the Association for 53 years until his retirement in 2014. He spent time at the Capitol as a lobbyist and had high regards for the members of OCFA and the legislature. He enjoyed what he did.
Bob was Executive Director of the OKC Jr. Chamber of Commerce and managed the 1964 World Meeting of J.C. International held in Oklahoma City. He served as Executive Director of Oklahoma Small Council of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Bondsman Association. He served on the Tourism and Recreation Commission for 6 years, appointed by Gov. George Nigh and reappointed by Gov. Henry Bellmon. He served on the Oklahoma Centennial Commission and took pleasure working to celebrate the birthday bash in 2007.
He was in the travel business for many years and traveled extensively. He was with University Sports Tours until his recent retirement and was a member of OSAE and SKAL.
Bob was an avid Oklahoma Sooner Football fan, a season ticket holder for over 60 years and never missed a home game or a bowl game. His other great love was boating on Grand Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving sister, Janice Rollins Laughlin and daughter-in-law Cheryl Brewster Rollins. He is survived by his wife Carlene of 57 years; son, Michael Rollins of Tulsa, OK and daughter Dana Locker and son-in-law Jim of Loveland, Ohio; four grandchildren - Ryan Rollins, Sydney Rollins, Matt Locker and Polina Locker; brother Richard Rollins and sister-in-law Gloria of Edmond, OK, nieces Shellie Greiner (Don), Julie Shannon (Derrick), Christy Grounds (John), and nephew Jay Smith all of Edmond, OK and others, including many grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was a generous kind person and had many friends and family. He will be missed!
Visitation will be Monday September 18 at Smith & Kernke 14624 N. May from 5 to 7 pm.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday September 19 at 2:00 pm at Smith & Kernke. Burial immediately following at Rose Hill Burial Park.
