Robert Eugene Smith

Our beloved father, son, brother and friend, Robert Eugene Smith, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sept 7, 2011. He peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones. Rob was born on Feb 7, 1950 in Bartlesville, OK. He grew up in Blackwell, OK, graduating from Blackwell High School in 1968 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1972. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for many years. Rob was preceded in death by his father, Ross Murray. He is survived by his mother, Norma Jean Murray of Blackwell; son Robert Adam Smith of Atlanta, GA; daughter Allison Smith Friden and her husband, Brian of OKC; brother Steve Smith and family of McKinney, TX; sister Kim Shoffner and her husband, Ron of Braman; and his nieces and nephews. Rob's legacy is his genuine kindness and always putting others before himself. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice, especially Tia O'Neal. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or Free To Live Animal Sanctuary. A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Saturday, Sept 10 at Church of the Servant in OKC at 10 am, with interment following in Blackwell Cemetery at 3 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, Sept 9 from 4 – 7 pm at Smith & Kernke.
