Robert L. Johnston sprang forth into this life on January 28, 1953, begotten in Little Rock, Arkansas, to William Robert Johnston, Jr. and Billie Jean Farmer Johnston. Robert's parents reared him in Independence, Kansas. During the years of his secondary education, Robert played football; subsequently graduating high school in 1971. He embarked upon a path of academics, for a moment at the University of Arkansas, then at Wichita State University where he earned his baccalaureate. Robert's scholastic pursuits culminated in the University of Oklahoma College of Law conferring upon him the degree of Juris Doctor.
Robert practiced criminal law primarily and the memory of his jurisprudence transcends his remarkable accomplishments both inside the courtroom and without. His colleagues consider him a zealous client advocate and a pundit of the criminal law; a man they could confide in with both personal and professional necessities alike --- Robert Johnston's friends and fellow members of the bar describe him in such resplendent terms that he can be denominated as nothing less than a real Fidus Achates.
His greatest fervency of all found its place in fishing. Robert is noted as having been an avid fisherman; he even aspired to become a Bass Pro fisherman. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, and now and again dabbled with deer and pig hunting. Robert was a man who persevered with his passions: at the young age of forty (40), he won the Mr. Oklahoma body building competition.
Despite having contended with a lengthy series of illnesses, Robert was thought to be a happy man. He spent the last fifteen (15) years of his life married to his immortal beloved, Celeste Maupin, who survives him. While we mourn the dimming of his bodily light, Robert's legacy lives on. He is also survived by his sister, Cindi Bosworth and her husband, Rick; his daughter Jessica Johnston; two granddaughters, McKenna "Feedie" and Charlotte; brothers-in law, Michael, Charles, Chris; and Andy Maupin; as well as a host of loving friends and members of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Robert's life changed in a permanent way on May 19, 2018, but his life, accomplishments, passions; friends, and family will forever prevent the gates of death from fully closing on this great man. Come celebrate his life with his family and friends at the Credit Union House, 631 E. Hill St., Oklahoma City, OK, on June 8, 2018, from 5:30-8:00 P.M.
There is No Night Without a Dawning
By: Helen Steiner Rice
There is no night without a dawning
No winter without a spring
And beyond the dark horizon
Our hearts will once more sing ….
For those who leave us for a while
Have only gone away
Out of a restless, care worn world
Into a brighter day
