Robert Dudley Looney Jr.

Robert D. Looney, Jr., “Bob”, age 79, died peacefully on Feb 20th, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with multiple health issues throughout the latter part of his life. Bob was born on February 4th, 1946, in Oklahoma City to Robert D. and Caroline Ambrister Looney. Bob attended Harding High School where he played football, baseball and basketball. He was an incredible athlete, excelling at every sport, and was an All-State quarterback. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He attended Georgetown University Law Center for one year and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1970.

 In 1967, Bob married Sue Ann Magness and they had two daughters Kimberly and Elizabeth Looney. Bob served in the US Army and was stationed at Phu Loi, a helicopter base, in Vietnam from 1971-1972. He was in JAG and attained a rank of Captain. His time in Vietnam made a significant impact on his life and was an experience he openly shared.

 In 1976, he married Anne Davis Nelson, welcoming her two children Brad and Angie into their newly formed family, and Bob loved the children as his own. Later, Bob and Anne had Kara Looney who completed their blended family. This unique family dynamic was a testimony to the love and commitment they shared for each other. Bob practiced law at Looney, Nichols, Johnson and Hayes for almost 30 years. He then practiced at Hall Estill as a partner until his retirement, having practiced law for 50 years. Bob was a charter member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and selected as a Charter Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Bob was also recognized as an Oklahoma Super Lawyer in Product Liability and Personal Injury. He authored many legal publications and was a member of the OKC Rotary Club, Pros 4 Vets Board of Directors, and Oklahoma Bar Military Assistance Committee, receiving numerous other awards and honors. He was a compassionate and highly respected attorney, always acting in the best interests of his clients. Bob's life was defined by his love for his family and his close friendships. He was a constant presence in his children's lives, both when they were young and as adults. Bob was loving, caring, funny, stubborn and his own person. His honesty and integrity defined him, and he was well respected by those who knew him. He had a close-knit group of lifelong friends, who kept him young at heart and full of joy and laughter. He shared his passion for music with his family and spent many nights playing James Taylor and The Beach Boys (just to name a few) for them in the living room. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Bob was predeceased by his parents and brother John A. Looney. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 48 years, Kim Looney Bohanon and her husband Philip, Brad Nelson and his wife Devon, Elizabeth (Beth) Looney Iversen and her husband Brett, Angie Nelson VandenBrook and her husband Lance, Kara Looney Lundquist and her husband Chuck, and his sister Carole Looney Hill. His grandchildren are Meg and Julia Bohanon, Finley and Alexander Nelson, Callie, Aubrey and Jackie Iversen, Michael, Lizzy, and Jackson VandenBrook, Colin and Hannah Lundquist, nephew John Hill, Jr. and great niece Riley Hill. 

Memorial services will be held at 1pm on Feb 28th at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite organization or charity.
