Robert Shelton Jones was born April 8, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Elsie Geraldyne (Shelton) Jones and Daniel Pryor Jones. He passed away peacefully at home into the arms of his heavenly Father on May 14, 2014, with his family by his side. Bob grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School in 1953. He attended both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, receiving his bachelor's degree from OU in 1955. In 1956, Bob married Ardeth Anne (Ainsworth) Jones and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. In 1958, he was commissioned to the U.S. Navy and served our country with valor as a pilot until 1964, when he was honorably discharged. After stationed in Florida and Virginia, Bob and Ardeth settled in their hometown of Oklahoma City. Bob and Ardeth are members of Crossings Community Church of Oklahoma City.
Bob was a man of integrity with a quiet faith that truly motivated his actions. He was generous, caring, honest, trustworthy, loved laughter and was an extremely hard worker. He worked for 26 years as a national sales representative for Evyan Perfumes, Inc. He was an entrepreneur at heart and his endeavors ranged from a fledgling ice company in his twenties to multiple real estate investments and a small, successful manufacturing company.
Bob and Ardeth loved to travel and saw much of the world. He instilled his sense of adventure in his family and loved to treat his children and grandchildren to fun and exciting trips over the years. He was a wonderfully loving and caring brother, dad, papa, granddad and great granddad, adored by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Daniel P. Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Ardeth, three daughters, Dacia Jorgensen and her husband Greg, Julie Gilliland and her husband Kent, and Karen Phillpott and her husband Keith, 6 grandchildren, Meggie Nelson and her husband Clay, Ryan, Kevin and Emily Gilliland, and Kyle and Jenna Phillpott, one great grandchild, Carter Nelson, as well as his sisters, Luanah Courtney and Sharon Jones, all of Oklahoma City, and several nieces and nephews.
Bob touched hundreds of lives over his years, was loved by many and had several very close friends. His personality was infectious and he will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Paula, Anna Marie and several others who lovingly cared for Bob day and night as he fought the illness that eventually overtook his earthly body.
